Sunday November 5
Sunday
was just that reading the Sunday paper and relaxing.
The
local cops came around and were checking everyone who had a Honda generator
sitting outside.
They
didn't see ours but the neighbor said they asked him for a receipt for
his. He had it as he just bought it,
but
they said anyone could have a receipt. So they took his serial number off
it and was going to call Honda
to
see who it was registered to. He said they told him 17 units were stolen
last year.
So
about $17000 worth of generators.

Today
Terry went off to teach at the roack club and then played in the shop in
the afternoon.
But
he did come home with MORE pallets Can't have too many pallets for firewood.
(Pics on Tuesday)
I
also had Terry jack up the right side of the 5er to level it.
Go
tired of when the fridg. door was opened it would swing wide open when
released. Now we are real level.
We
did check it when we first set up but later moved, and didn't check. We
were in a hurry when we
moved
to this site when it came open, when we first got here.
Power
Inverters TVs and other stuff....
Now
still need a roll of tv coax so I can take the bedroom TV out next to the
fire and picnic table,
and
watch the election returns tomorrow. We left a nice DC TV back in storage
since we just didn't use
it
last year, so now we think we want one outside. Think the AC 13" one in
the bedroom will work just fine.
We
never use it in there. Instead one of us gets up and boots the computer
and then streams NPR Morning Report and
with
our little FM band transmitter we can listen on the FM portable FM radio
in the bedroom which also runs off a small
portable
95 w inverter so I can also listen to the radio all night without running
the big 5er inverter.
Need
to get a small inverter up a Loves truck stop (for about $20) so we just
have to have the DirecTV DVR
on
its own inverter and another small inverter for this TV. Than can sit outside
and not have to turn on the big
2000
watt inverter. Note: We leave the DirecTV DVR receiver running on a standalone
small 140 w inverter so
it
can recored and keep track of stations when we have the big main 2000 watt
inverter turned off.
We
have our absentee ballets mailed back to SD and are ready to watch the
mid term election results.
These
things are important to us all, and how the vote goes. We just hope you
did
vote
and
that
you thought about what is the best for this country.
Now
we need to find flu shoots. Have emailed the local county health dept.
twice with no reply.
They
had them last year. The big grocery chains don't seem to be offering them
in this area.
(In
Blyth, CA or Parker, AZ) May have to go my doctor in Blyth to get them.
Hang
in there and Tuesday is a big day for the future of this country. We shall
see how it goes.
Tuesday November 6
Election
day 2006! Had a few preparations to make, picked up coax and
a 50 ft extension cord from K & B, and
a
small inverter. Had the TV set up by the picnic table and a roaring
fire as the sun set and the election results
began
to come in. Then we waited and waited and waited, The announcers
on MSNBC are real pros, and always
had
something to talk about all night, endless speculation on their part.
About
5:00 the results began, and despite all the pronouncements
of impending doom and election fraud, and
hacked
voting machines the election seemed to go rather smoothly. Got a
couple of calls from my nephew
commenting
on the local races in Iowa, He seemed excited to see a couple of
the local talent go down in
flames.
And we overall were happy with the results nationwide. Still do not
know what will happen in the U S Senate,
and
it may be several weeks before it is resolved. The talking heads
on TV are beside themselves, need
instant
results for the clamoring audience.
Today
we put up the sun shade we had stored with Jan, a friend down here for
the summer.
We
brought it down last year and never put it up. But this year it has been
very warm,
NO
hot
and we need shade. So up it went. Then went to a vender and got a
side sun screen panel
to
make it evern more shade friendly. As you can see, I thnk we have moved
in.
We
now need a big green outdoor carpet. Waiting for the vender that
sells them to open up.
The
ground just truns to fine dust when walked on alot.
Now
just need a portable blow up hot tub and all would be great.
They
do sell them at the big show in late January. And no we will not
be getting one.
The
BLM would probably go nuts when they saw us using all that water to fill
it.
And
by that time in Jan. it will be cold here.
Thursday November 9
Did
you ever wonder where the time flies to? Thought that Wednesday was
a very slow day, but
some
how there was not enough time to add our daily entry to the Web log.
Guess we were just to busy
enjoying
another of our nightly campfires enjoying a quiet evening in the Arizona
Desert. didn't
even
drag the tv out for any news coverage.
Added
a bit of additional shade cloth to our sun shelter this afternoon, which
entailed a quick trip to
the
hardware store/tent. We needed a few more rubber tarp ties to anchor
the shade cloth, and while we
were
out got filtered water at the grocery store.
We
also met two of our readers, and had a brief visit, it being late in the
afternoon they needed to find
a
site to set up in so we only had a chance for a short talk. We are
looking forward to talking to them
later
when there is less need to rush.
Capped
off the evening with another of our wonderful campfires.
Friday November 10
(by Terry)
I
hear the weather up north is frightful, but here in Q its been delightful.
Thus
far every day is a perfect 80-90degrees, with very mild evenings.
It
could continue like this all winter and not hurt my feelings in the least.
Meanwhile
up north, winter starts. Heard form my nephew that there were
several
inches of snow on the ground
in
Cedar Falls, Iowa, after having record high temps the day before.
I
remember well the roller coaster temps of late late fall in the north,
good weather to catch a cold or the flu.
The
tomato, geranium, and mum plants continue to grow and thrive, thanks to
heavy watering and
regular
applications of fertilizer. Below is a shot of the upside down tomato
plant, we improvised
a
wind screen and will soon have to have a blanket to wrap around it at night
keeping it warm and toasty.
(by Ron)
Towards evening Bob &
Sandy Pickard stopped by to talk and ask questions about Q on the
way back to their trailer.
They just arrived the day before, and are getting settled in.
They are excited about being
in Q and it is all new to them. We hope we can be of help to them in getting
this fulltime thing down
pat. They are about to go shopping for solar panels.
What fun it is to gear up
for fulltiming it. We wish them luck as they settle in for the season.
Terry made pizza for supper,
and ate on the picnic table while watching the "This Old House Hour on
Public TV.
After years of trying we
finally convinced the bureaucrats at Direct TV to allow us the national
PBS feed.
We don't watch it a lot,
but This Old House is one of the shows we enjoy.
Then watched Real Time
with Bill Maher. We're really roughing it. aren't we!
On Saturday we are off
Bouse, AZ just northeast of Q to see what their city festival is all about.
Saturday November 11
(by Ron)
They had a small vender
flea market and were serving lunch at the Founders Day in Bouse, AZ. The
town was having a
city wide garage sale. Think
there was a dance tonight. We then drove over to see what was new
in Parker.
Our first trip there this
year. We had lunch at Taco Bell and stocked up on groceries at Safeway
and headed
on home for A Prairie
Home Companion streaming on the web form NPR.
It is mostly cloudy and
only go up to 75 today. A mellow day to be in the great southwest.
7:00 PM
While Terry is getting supper
ready... we are watching Emeril Live on the food channel.
Terry is making oven fried
chicken, roast garlic mashed potatoes. Sauted broccoli with onion and garlic.
Sometimes I like to share
my posts that I do in the RV forums here on our personal site.
The thread was:
How to RV full-time,
but on a very low budget? Many great posts, and my post:
We are in Quartzsite for
the season in the BLM and have a great site (see our blog) for $140 for
the winter season.
As we drive around to the
RV homesites, the ones with the low brick walls and such. One in Rainbow
Acers just
outside Q wants $115,000
for a vacant lot. There are many for sale. Thinks there is a water problem
in the desert, these days
Another listing in a local
flyer has 5 acres of undeveloped land in Q for $500,000. Yes you read that
right. NUTS or WHAT!
Well for $140 for the season
we can live just like them, but with us in the BLM long term camping area
with more
room and greater freedom.
Sure, to each their own, so what works for us, may not be right for them
so all... Happy RVing.
OH... the RV forums
we like are listed in our RV
Travel Resources on our main Hitchithch.com
web site.
Now back to the forums to
read, learn, and maybe do some more posting.
