WOW what difference a day
makes. The Big Tent show closed (sure it will open up in a day or
two with an Arts and Crafts and Classic Car show Jan. 28 - Feb. 1).
But for the most part it's a 9 day
Sport, Vacation & RV show. Now and along with many
of the venders who just showed up for that time period are also packing
up and moving out of town as you can see in the above picture. This was
filled last week. Many rock and gem venders are rushing off to Tucson for
another event on their winter schedule. This is just the west section of
Tyson Wells and I should say for the most part the venders who set up last
month are still here for the season further east of here. So there is still
much to see and buy.
We had a pleasant surprise,
as we were just coming inside after sunset, from friends who had been here
with the RRV group for the shows and have returned from the Nieland, CA
area, after a brief stay, to spend more time back in Q.
Now time to have some homemade
ham and bean soup that Terry put together with cornbread. It was
a bit cooler today so that sounded good. Now looking at Weather
Watcher looks like it is going to warm up and be great later
this week. The temps have been above normal for this time of year in Q
so we are not complaining, not even a little bit. And I left off the 0
in that bit. And as I tell Terry its not rock science. Just go play in
the driveway. I'm into 1s and 0s and he is into playing at his rock and
gem club. Seems strange to me. A geek he is, in his own way.

(updated 5:50 PM)
Last
night we took showers and just as were getting ready for bed noticed the
water pump growling when we would run water. You know what that means don't
you. The tank was about dry as the desert around us. I turned the switch
to the pump OFF and went to bed. So good old early to rise, Terry headed
down to La Posa South for some water, at daybreak. (We have a couple of
barrels to carry it back and then siphon it into your tank) I slept in,
as in night person, so he gets to do all this stuff while I just
roll over and grump. Why so early you ask, well he wanted to be at the
rock club at his usual time so that meant an early Honey Do event this
AM. He wouldn't go off to play (or teach) at the rock club and leave me
without water, now would he?
Now
might as well show some shots from inside the rock club play areas. Terry
keeps filling up the memory in my camera so now I get to dump them here.
Looks like serious goings
on here. Must keep their surgical rock tools clean in that steamer
thing-a-majig on the back counter.
Let me see if I can melt
this thing.
Think they are polishing
rocks from some nearby driveway and they come out shinny and special.
These people all look like
they are having such great fun, if you could only see their faces. They
are intent on having fun. A little polka music and dancing please.
Don't understand, not a computer keyboard in sight.
It was slightly breezy today
(we don't say wind in Q) and only got to the low 60s. But sunny.
Weather Watcher sez later in the week and the weekend, 75 and above and
clam winds. It goes without saying, full sun. Time to party in Q as the
crowds are less, and the best, of the rest of the winter season, starts
now.
Friday Jan. 30
When
we went to town a couple of days ago we saw a new food vender setting up,
and were amazed anyone would come to town AFTER the big tent show and set
up. Our first view was this trailer and they were putting up this extra
large ,as in huge eating tent. All we could think was they were just plain
nuts. And they were setting up on the far south end of Rice Ranch, not
another vender within sight so to speak.
So
now time for the pics.
They
could hold a convention in that setup. If you are familar with Rice Ranch,
the south drive was an exit only road back to HW95, BUT now with this new
vender the exit only sign has been changed to an Entrance sign to the Buffet.
COOL.
Their
cook prep trailer.
Now today we got a close
up shot of their banner. Tastebuds Rolling Buffet.
NOW let me think about this
again... This just might be the idea of the year for this area.
Thousands of people living
fulltime in the desert on the cheap in the BLM and an all you can eat buffet
shows up.
This could be a big HIT...
We shall see. And yes we will be stopping by to check out the food
slections, prices, and hours of operation.
Check back for our report
on what we find.
Soon, a report with pictures
on a NEW food store in Blythe which is NOW open. Great meat
and produce with a hispanic flair. They should give Albertsons a run for
their money. What every town needs, is two or more food stores to keep
prices down. We did find much lower prices for staples. More later.
I got a Rubbermaid wire shelf
at ACE hardware so I could put up another one, above the two others, so
to move our Datastorm internet equipment up out of the way in our bathroom
closet. We get to use this area for clothes storage as we didn't
want laundry machines.
Terry got wall extension
hardware for the rock club also at ACE. We can't go anywhere without him
getting building materials for his rock club.
Do I need to say it again
about the great weather in Q . NO, So I won't.
Saturday Jan. 31
Look
what we found Friday aftrnoon in Blythe, CA. Right next to the K-mart
on the west end of town.
This
should give Albertsons a run for their money and lower prices. It
is Hispanic run and all very friendly.
The
meat department covers the back wall and is real meat dept. All meat is
hand warpped after you select it. Full line of fish, etc. also.
They
are in the process of finishing the bakery.
And
as you can see below the produce section takes up the entire west section
of the store. The prices were also very good. More what I remembered
things should cost. The only thing lacking was the selection of grocery
items. Only a few of each brand, not every brand. If you need more, then
move your butt on over to Albertsons and pay for that privilege.
We will be going back to
support them. Remember west end of town by K-mart.
