Monday January 29
We did finally get to have
our nice steak dinner. Potatoes in foil cooked over coals in the campfire.
That make them tops.
Yes much better than the
three piece chicken leg fiasco.
You can see light sour cream
(you can't get anything fat free in Q).
Just try to find any light
salad dressings... or low salt tomato juice. Never heard of it.
And this place is full of
(might I be truthful) OLD people.
And good old Smart Balance
(well you can get that here I guess).
Anywho it was good and Terry
the cook did well.
And we had another Q special
sunset.
What more can we say...
I looked at pictures like these for years on the internet before we did
the
fulltime thing and thought
WOW. And now we get to see it first hand...
Each day is different and
not everyday is great, but everyday is a wonder to behold, and to be able
to live it.
Wishing our loved ones,
who have passed, could see it with us. Trusting maybe they are.
The big RV rally groups and
people just here for the party and the big tent show
are starting to pull out
and head on down the road. I think I call that HITCH ITCH.
Where have I heard that
term before. There are still many events to occupy people
but the big one is over
and the BLM and town can get back to a little less traffic.
We can relax and enjoy the
sunsets as it continues to warm up a little more each day.
And for us, as we look around,
the RV rigs slowly emerge that were here before the crowd
moved in and surrounded
them. We look at each other and think (we full season boondockers)
survived the big show and
didn't get run over by it all.
We love the excitement of
the "Woodstock for RVers" but back to the slower pace is nice also.
People come out to the desert
and boondock to get away from it all, so to speak. And the big party
rigs do try to do that for
a week, and I'm sure many are proud they think they surpassed their
expectations that they were
able to live the simple life for a few days before, some head back the
the
5* RV resorts or home and
park it. More and more, as these people try it for just a few days, they
get
the urge and are ready to
go solar, as in panels. They see the solar panels all tilted up
to capture the rays
on the rigs and say, we
should do that too? And if they can talk their spouse into it
do it a little more each
year. The idea of off the grid... BOONDOCKING has a GREEN
ring to it.
Good for them. Besides the
humming birds might come back now that the HUM of all the generators has
died down.
Just kidding we use ours
also.
We found a bag of peanuts
on our door step today from Bob and Linda.. who are heading out.
I had been thinking about
peanut happy hour and it will hit the spot. Thanks...
Even the paparazzi have
to eat while on stake out, for that perfect picture.
Tuesday January 30
Yes
it is the 30 of January. My how I get the wrong dates on the posts...
Today
is overcast, cool and breezy. One of those transition days that helps you
to appreciate
the
normally fantastic weather in Q.
So
Terry went off to the rock club on a extra special mission this morning...
looking
for the GRMS radio he LOST yesterday. The new ones we bought on black Friday
at
Radio Shack. On his second trip hunting for it he found it. I have
released him from the dog house
and
I got a blooming onion for lunch from the vender stand at the Main Event.
I'm
playing on the computer this afternoon. Can't help but check out the deals
and prices
for
a new PC with Vista on it. The new Microsoft upgrade was just released
for sale today!
The
price of a new PC sounds good till you customise it and well it's big bucks
again.
Just
can't order a stripped down unit... Ya Know. I must be nuts looking at
new PC's after just paying
the
price to upgrade the satellite internet system to the tune of $1600. But
it is nice and so far has
been
much faster than the old 4000 system.
I
figure I could get a new Dell for around $900 and a new HP for around $800
the way I would want it configured,
that's
with new 19 or 20" LCD monitor.
Wednesday January 31
I did
it and ordered a new Dell Dimension E520 computer VISTA Home Premium for
$993 after discounts.
Found
a coupon code online for 20% off.
Pentium
D 915 with dual core 2.8 G
2
G memory
250GB
hard drive
256MB
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro video card.
20"
wide screen LCD flat panel monitor. 35% more viewing area for laying out
applications.
Not
exactly the low end model at Kmart and not an crazy off the top video gamers
machine.
But
this ought to WOW me.
So
what the hell did it. It's only money, and we only live once, and for a
short time at that.
And
with doing web sites and blogs, it's not like we don't use the thing.
Buyers
remorse.... naw not yet. Terry does rocks and I do computers.
Like
they say when you go fulltime, you will wish you did it sooner.
So
why wait for a new machine with VISTA if you can have it now. There is
now dought I would have upgraded.
Just
when. So why wait... And this is toys for big boys.
We
just talked to Terry's brother back in eastern Iowa and it is to get to
20
below
in the next couple of days. Winter does come to those who wait.
We
will give him our old computer
(HP
2.5 M Hz 512 M ram XP w 17" LCD flat screen) good machine,
since
his son took theirs off to collage. Now he can get back on the web.
Terry
want off to a class at the rock club and we will have a (as they say) box
pizza later.
Should get up to about 80
on the weekend here in Q... Looking Good.
Should be great for Super
Bowl watching around the campfire.
We had a very nice visit
from Stephen and Brigitte Brighton today.. (forgot to get a pic) Maybe
they will email one?
They have followed our blog
and are in Q at La Posa South BLM and later will go on down to Yuma.
It was great fun talking
to them and we looked over Q via Google Earth on our MotoSat system.
Found a swimming pool hidden
in back of house. There is a new sat image, to zoom in on in the
last
year that is very clear.
Think you can see the pool.
If you have been in Q you would know this is exit 17 on I-10 and the
empty Main Event show area
is in upper left center. McDonalds right center. This is a google satellite
picture so not current.
Right now it is full of
venders.
See the blue pool in the
center. This is the big tire dealer which must be doing well.
You may say so what!
But this is Quartzsite and in the middle of the desert.
We got to talking about
this as Q is trying to raise funds to build a community pool for the kids.
Might be we are just getting
hard up for things to post about? Take your pick..
Thursday February 1
A new
month... Only 2 more months in Q till we head on out again.
How
would you like to do it in this unit we spotted in Q today. I was shooting
into the sun.
Now you must go to their web site.
On the side of the RV it
said www. auf-achse.tv but when we entered
it in our web browser it
conveted it to www.outdoor-production.com
Checked on the status of
my new computer from Dell and low and behold
it said it was out of production
and has been shipped. I just ordered it on Jan. 31
and it shipped on Feb.1
and sez Next Business Day Delivery from FedEx on Feb. 2 which is Friday.
Tomorrow.
Now I don't believe that
for a second. But if it does I will be amazed. When I ordered it..
Said it would
be out of production on
02/05/07 and shipped for delivery 2-5 days later. Now email sez made in
one day and
shipped the next and delivered
the day after that. If Dell pulls that off and for FREE shipping.
So what they just told me
was I ordered it on Wed. and will deliver it on Friday of the SAME
week.
Stay tuned...
7:45 PM Update
This is just nuts... FedEx
web site now sez delivery is expected tomorrow Friday by 4:30 PM
They have it listed as Priority
Overnight.
Friday February 2
Got this from FedEx:
Looks like Dell wasn't kidding
about fast shipping..
Can see I will be busy for
the next few days getting the new system up and running so
posts may have to wait till
I get all the software moved over and operational.
OH
MY this post comes to you from a new computer. No small task...
Go below and hit forward for more posts.
Graphic is a link to their main site.
See a whole group of aerial
photos of the tent and the event.
